This 7¾ mile route takes you across fellside pasture, where paths on the ground are unclear, through a small area of forest and along a riverside path. There are also sections along well-surfaced farm roads and short sections on minor roads. The River Hodder is crossed by stepping stones. The views from the higher parts of the walk on the side of Whitmore Fell can be quite spectacular - well worth the climb.
