It's about 4 years since I realised that I had quite a collection of manipulated photographs of sculptures - so I submitted the idea for an exhibition to a gallery not a million miles from where we now live. Alas it was turned down (though later I was invited to be involved in a group exhibition at the same venue - this prompted me to take (and manipulate) more sculpture images!

The pictures in this exhibition date from the 1990s (Hang on Mum is the oldest and originated on slide film! The most recent is Seahorses featuring Eric Gill's iconic sculpture from the Midland Hotel, Morecambe.

Some of the images were simple and easy to shoot - but Speed  involved numerous visits to Liverpool to take the image when the light was right. Hang on Mum had been planned over 12 months in advance, waiting for the right lighting conditions on a Sunday. It was shot from stepladders with Lin out of shot guarding the teddy bear (yes, it was in the picture when I shot it - it's not a digital addition!

It wasn't until I was reviewing images that I'd taken of The Dream that I realised the cloud formation looked like a "thought bubble" - unfortunately I didn't have a photograph of the pit head gear that used to stand on this site, so I used one from Ashington, Northumberland.

Whilst our younger daughter lived in Lincoln, I had walked past Empowerment many times, but the sun never caught it at the right angle (or wasn't shining at all). It wasn't until judging at a local camera club where someone had entered a picture with the sun really emphasising the lines on the lower figure that I realised I'd just never walked past at the right time! I took it at an angle so as not to include nearby buildings - and presented  it with the statues at the angle they really are (more or less).

We didn't complete many walks worth writing up last year - 2018 has got off to a better start. We had a brilliant winter day for this 8 mile route.

Four walks and Four Craft Fairs ...

20/9/2017

Where does time go? It was when reading a friend's blog that I realised I hadn't updated my blog since March! Since when I've sold photographs at 4 craft fairs (at the fantastic Vintage Festival in Morecambe and at 3 events organised by the Bay Craft Collective at Heysham Heritage Centre).

There have also been 3 more Kindle book, walk descriptions - and an additional one only available from the website.

I've also had picture displayed at Morecambe Artist Colony's Members Exhibition and taken part in a group exhibition at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre (with Johnny Bean and R Simon Dalton).

A 5¼ mile walk, mostly along well-defined paths and tracks - though some may be muddy after rain - as can be seen from the images: it was very muddy on the day we photographed the route. The final section follows a tarmac road alongside the lake. There are some great views over Windermere (especially if you walk on a better day than we did) and the return route is along the lake shore.

Mostly along well-defined paths and tracks - though some may be muddy after rain and there is one shallow ford to cross. The routes starts with an ascent through deer park up to heather moorland. The descent is mainly through a wooded river valley. Note: part of the route follows permissive footpaths on which dogs are not allowed.

St Bees Head - the most westerly point in northern England

Most of the 6⅔ mile route follows a spectacular section of the England Coast Path (and also the start of the unofficial Coast to Coast Path) – and most of it follows a clear clifftop path along the Heritage Coastline that is the most westerly in northern England. The inland loop crosses a large field where there is no path visible on the ground, then follows clear paths and tracks before returning to the coast.
