Click here to view the exhibition gallery | It's about 4 years since I realised that I had quite a collection of manipulated photographs of sculptures - so I submitted the idea for an exhibition to a gallery not a million miles from where we now live. Alas it was turned down (though later I was invited to be involved in a group exhibition at the same venue - this prompted me to take (and manipulate) more sculpture images! The pictures in this exhibition date from the 1990s (Hang on Mum is the oldest and originated on slide film! The most recent is Seahorses featuring Eric Gill's iconic sculpture from the Midland Hotel, Morecambe. Some of the images were simple and easy to shoot - but Speed involved numerous visits to Liverpool to take the image when the light was right. Hang on Mum had been planned over 12 months in advance, waiting for the right lighting conditions on a Sunday. It was shot from stepladders with Lin out of shot guarding the teddy bear (yes, it was in the picture when I shot it - it's not a digital addition! |
Whilst our younger daughter lived in Lincoln, I had walked past Empowerment many times, but the sun never caught it at the right angle (or wasn't shining at all). It wasn't until judging at a local camera club where someone had entered a picture with the sun really emphasising the lines on the lower figure that I realised I'd just never walked past at the right time! I took it at an angle so as not to include nearby buildings - and presented it with the statues at the angle they really are (more or less).
